The Year of Color

Gown by Stella de Libero / As Seen on Wedding Inspirasi
Three years ago when we created our blog, one of our first few posts already rallied to go for colored gowns. To be more specific, we entitled the entry "Anti-White" and it was our 9th post in the blog. This has always been one of our "propaganda movements."

Over the past few years since that post, we've been so overjoyed to see the same battle cry from fashion heavyweights the likes of Vera Wang. So when the folks over at Simply Bridal shared with us their 2014 Fearless Forecast, we couldn't be happier. According to Simply Bridal, they predict that 2014 is DEFINITELY the year for colored gowns. So in support of their forecast, we've scoured the web to also give you sample gowns based on their forecast. Enjoy! :)

Simply Bridal says: 2014 is the year of going against the grain with weddings, especially when it comes to color! Instead of traditional white wedding gowns, brides will select colored gowns to show off their unique style and personality. Here's some of the hottest hues for wedding dresses and what they say about you:

"THE LITTLE WHITE LIE"

If you are a regular RB reader, you know by now that the belief embedded in our society that white is the traditional color of gowns since time and immemorial is one of the BIGGEST FATTEST LIES to date. But in case you haven't read our feature on this yet, VISIT: THE LITTLE WHITE LIE

So what now rebels? Are you finally ready to take the big leap towards colored gowns? Always remember that this is NOT about following the latest trends in weddings. It's about staying true to yourself especially if deep down inside you've always wanted to wear a colored gown on your wedding day. Based on this helpful infographic shared by Simply Bridal, which color/personality do you think best suits you? :)

Claire Pettibone Bridal Fall-Winter 2013-2014

Perfect bohemian modern bride. Here are presented really elegant and ethereal looks in Autumn-Winter 2013-2014 Claire Pettibone bridal collection. Indeed, this runway show was one of the highlights of New York Bridal Fashion Week. Models looked like woodland nymphs walking down a rose covered catwalk wearing floral accessories.

New Brides dresses collection was full of romantic designs which looked vintage with a touch of lingerie inspiration. Love that delicate lace, ribbon sashes and pastel embroideries. Claire knows how to attract attention, for instance next season’s trend like diaphanous lace overlays and long sleeves. All in all, her collection is incredible, feminine and combines vintage and modern styles.

Claire Pettibone - An Earthly Paradise

"Sapphire sea, an endless blue sky, the scent of sweet flowers drifting on the breeze, and a girl dreaming of her lover. Dutch born Victorian artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema painted scenes of languid beauties reminiscent of Roman deities, but his subjects are unmistakably human. Caught in a moment of relaxation or idle daydream…we can almost feel the cool marble and the warm Mediterranean sunlight. Elements of precious embellishment, sun drenched color and effortless luxury set the stage for our modern goddesses."  -- ClairePettibone.Com

Claire Pettibone's Earthly Paradise Bridal Collection has taken my breath away. She brings out so much color and life into the usual white bridal gown! Is it so weird that I feel so much worldly emotions just by looking at her creations?

Designer Claire Pettibone shares:

"When I design a collection I strive to make a woman feel as special as the delicate creation she is wearing; take her to a enchanted time and place where women are princesses and magnificent goddesses. In today's modern world we need to pause and indulge in beauty....

It has always been my desire to create exquisite feminine clothing using the finest fabrics and precious details; to combine a vintage feeling with modern style.

In 1994, with the partnership of my husband Guy Toley, we began. Over the years, it has been a joy to see our collections carried in the finest boutiques in the world. I have a very romantic vision of how fashion can enhance our beauty and indulge our dreams. I invite you to share that dream."

I got a little curious on who the "real-life Claire Pettibone brides" are and here's what I discovered:

Wednesday's Brides Dress Wow

Seeing the pictures of Una Healy's Brides dress (From the British Girl-band "The Saturdays") prompted me to look at the designer behind the beautiful gown. Claire Pettibone, an american designer, studied classical ballet for years and upon looking through her collection it is evident that her inspiration came from the stories and costumes from that classical genre of elegance and grace.

The dress above is named "Cloisonne". Don't you think that the floral lace detail draping from the back is so beautiful? Below is a picture of the dress style "Luna" that Una Healy wore for her Brides day. What do you think of her choice of Brides dress?
The pretty floral detailing give the gowns that extra depth along with that vintage feel. Have browse through the rest of Claire Pettibone's stunning collection here

Claire Pettibone - Rebellious Bridal Couture

Special thanks to Rebellious Bride Punky for introducing us to Claire Pettibone's work :)
-----

In our blog article, White w/ a Twist, we received a comment from Rebellious Bride Punky that she loves Claire Pettibone's bridal couture style--that they were sweet yet also modern. And I couldn't agree more. Part fairy, part goddess, part medieval, part edgy, her style is rebellious yet totally soft and dreamy. I love that ALL her bridal gowns, and I mean ALL of her creations are so unique and "non-wedding-y" so much so that I had to triple check if I was really looking through the bridal couture section of her website.

Watch the bridal fashion show video below -- it's insane how all the gowns are rebellious in its own way. Let the show take you to places you've never deemed possible!

Here are more photos of Claire's amazing bridal gowns. Which one is your favorite? :)

XOXO,
Kai
