Carol & Gino: Home "Chic" Home

Photography by Jaja Samaniego

A few days ago, we blogged about our Wedding Agency clients Carol & Gino and their Home "Chic" Home wedding. This time around, we have more official photos from Jaja Samaniego and they are absolutely purrty!

Just a few additional details about the wedding planning before you guys enjoy this photo set. We were actually the first-ever suppliers the couple booked! Since they are based in the US, it was absolutely necessary for them to team up with us because they wanted someone who could objectively recommend local talents based on their taste and style. They were starting from scratch and we were grateful that they trusted our process of conceptualizing for their personal theme first before identifying which suppliers to work with. And speaking of suppliers, majority of the ones we recommended are also the ones that the clients progressed!

As for the theme, the clients wanted a homey and local vibe---but without the usual fiesta-themed Pinoy weddings. The result was a wedding hinged on their relationship and a wedding that looked quite organic and fresh. The overall feeling was like a home you could go home to  :)

Pia + Shuni's Shabby Chic & Mask Fair Wedding

Photography by We Do It For Love

As I was looking through Pia and Shuni's wedding photos, I was immediately taken and impressed by how unique their wedding details were. They actually call their theme shabby chic--but as you will see in this feature, they managed to create such an uncommon interpretation to an otherwise common theme. The wedding felt fun, playful, whimsical, magical, imaginative, and nostalgic as if it were a children's book made to come alive. At the same time, the couple made the whole wedding festivities feel like a private mask fair with many interactive ideas and decorations. Just goes to show that there's still MORE to shabby chic than meets the eye and it's so much fun to create your own wedding rules!

Pia & Shuni definitely knew how to curate and edit old ideas from new ones and the result of which is a wedding that we've never seen before! This is definitely one of the most charming rebellious weddings we've seen so far this year :)

Congratulations Pia and Shuni! And may your marriage be as inspiring and magical as your wedding!

Chad & Hi-C's Jologs Pa-Soshal 90s Wedding--In Other Words, Throwback Wedding!

"So it was made. That we will wear sophisticated (more of like pa-soshal) clothes but we’ll not lose our “normal” selves. Thus, we had come up with a jologs with a bit of pa-soshal wedding. And what would be more jologs than the 90’s era? So, give way for a 90’s themed wedding."

Rebellious Bride Hi-C on their "Jologs Pa-Soshal 90s Wedding"

There's nothing quite like a couple who's bold enough to make fun of themselves...and their wedding. The bride already explains their wedding all too well so let's start!

RB Hi-C Shares: My husband and I are not fond of being the center of attention unless we are making fun of ourselves or we are performing a song/dance number for our family and friends. We hardly even throw a big birthday celebration. We are a fun loving couple. Everything too serious and too conventional bores us and everything too pretentious is not good to our eyes. We want pretenses but we want it the comical way. Thus, we may opt to look formally sophisticated only if really necessary --- and we believed that it was really necessary for our wedding day.

"To project the 90’s/Jologs theme, our names were matched in F.L.A.M.E.S. (childhood game) printed on our invite and on our cake topper."

"The song I sang as a part of my vow was “Sana’y Wala nang Wakas” by Sharon Cuneta."

"For the reception, the table names were named after the famous love teams in the 90’s like Judy Ann Santos & Wowie de Guzman. Some of the dishes served by K by Cunanan Catering were streetfoods like isaw, tokneneng and taho. We also had a Filipino pasta station with tuyo and tinapa flakes and they also served crackling pork bits."

"Instead of the usual bouquet and garter toss, we asked the gents to play “Dampa” (rubber band game) and the ladies to blow the plastic balloon."

"To complete the fun part, instead of the traditional first dance of the couple, we opted to do a 90’s flash mob for our guests. My husband started dancing alone to the tune of “Pizzicato Five” (made famous by Streetboys) while our guests were having their dinner. I pretended that I was not happy with what he was doing because he left me alone eating. So, I started to pull him back to our seats. The guests stopped eating because they thought we were actually quarreling on our wedding day! Oh it was the best! Then with “Stars by Simply Red” playing on the background, we started dancing together. Then came another 2, and another until we reached to 20 people dancing to the beat of the 90’s."

"No wedding is perfect so was ours. But we love how it was full of love, full of laugh."

Congratulations to the happy couple and may your marriage be as unpretentious and fun as your wedding! As a special treat, we requested for the raw video of their flash mob, and here it is! Definitely a #throwback moment!

The Brunch & Church Wedding #Throwback

Photography by J Lucas Reyes unless labeled otherwise

June 4, 2011 - 10ish in the morning - Cafe 1771

My good friend Nins and I were looking at the fun scene that surrounded us. It was a couple of hours before my church wedding and there we were drinking wine, doing brunch, dressed to the nines a'la Gossip Girl, and having a shoot with Ian Cruz and J Lucas Reyes. I called myself a 'rebellious bride' and Nins said: "Why don't you and Mica make a blog out of that?". "Maybe," I replied. At that time Mica and I didn't think much of it. But then a couple of weeks after June 4, something happened and I told Mica we should go ahead and do it.

The church wedding that my mother wanted us to do, used to be a sensitive topic. My husband and I actually felt hurt knowing that my parents couldn't accept our Boracay wedding as a real wedding just because it wasn't in a church. We thought this was pretty absurd. The church wedding was actually my mom's wedding. I got frustrated at first but then I realized that I was not a child that can just be 'dealt with'. So instead of moping, I quickly turned this around and positivized it--I created a theme, and I was to have a brunch with my friends 5 hours before the wedding.

So in celebration of our brunch/church wedding's 2-year anniversary, I would like to formally blog about it here in RB, and share some of the rebellious ideas we did on that day.

The Brunch

"We get by with a little help from our friends"--they were our sources of happiness and positive vibes so we wanted to capture this moment in a video that we collaborated with Ian Cruz Films. After Ian shared this video, a lot of his couples asked him if it would be possible to do the same on their wedding day. While this is a great idea, keep in mind that we really prepped for the brunch. It means you'll also have to adjust your schedules to squeeze it in.

The Portraits

When we first met w/ J Lucas Reyes and explained to him about the brunch, he shared with us a story of his Australian couple who wanted their loved ones to be individually photographed during their wedding because it was tradition. We loved this idea so we thought of doing the same for our friends. Souvenir gifts are fleeting---if you can actually share the limelight w/ your loved ones and have them photographed as well, this is a wonderful gift that would be treasured forever.

Sunshine, Tea Time, Hats, and Pearls

Catering by K by Cunanan

Like I said, the church wedding was essentially my parents' wedding. But I still made sure the overall styling would still come from me. So I gave my mom a theme to work with and I even gave her my pegs. In all fairness we agreed on this and she loved it. It was a June wedding and at that time I didn't even know that pearl is the gemstone of June. So in the end it all came together perfectly.

Since the church wedding was technically my mom's wedding, I gave her boards to work with then she was the one who made it possible with her own coordinator, catering, and designer.

So note to all of you who may be having misunderstandings with your parents--my friends laugh at me when I tell them this but I do powerpoint presentations for my parents whenever I need them to visualize what I am trying to explain to them. I'm not telling you to create a powerpoint but all I'm saying is, instead of sulking that your parents don't get you, find a way to get to them.

I initially wanted a school bus but since I can't find one, we just borrowed a random yellow car instead

Up to this very day, my mom considers our church wedding as our official wedding anniversary. While my husband and I consider our Boracay wedding our official wedding anniversary.

Some couples concede to their parents and follow what their parents want to do during their first wedding--vowing to do their own wedding, their own way when they celebrate their 10th year anniversary. But we turned this around. As the couple, we wanted to do our own wedding OUR WAY first--then agreed to what my parents afterwards. It's a complicated matter but one that I wouldn't have had any other way.

Choose your battles, learn to compromise, but always look for creative ways to assert yourselves. At the end of the day it's your wedding.

XOXO,
Kai

PS. As you all know, we've had 3 weddings. But lest you think that this is excessive, I'd like to reiterate that if you sum up the costs of the 3 weddings, it will still not amount to a grand hotel reception wedding with all the frou frou in this world.
