Rebellious Idea - The Frozen Wedding

It's been awhile since we last made a Rebellious Idea post but with Frozen coming out, we just had to make one! I never had that much expectations with Frozen. In my opinion, the last epic Disney movies that really came out were Mulan & Hercules. After that, they just kind of struggled (perhaps because they also focused on Pixar?). With Frozen, I FINALLY felt like the magical days of Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, Mulan, and Hercules are here again. Frozen has that same flair. I'm so in love with it maybe because it has brought out the child in me again--but at the same time, it's a new generation of Disney that I have come to experience with my own little family.

The film is ooooozing with wedding ideas! And I don't care if there's no ice in the Philippines. I think that the same way that Olaf loves the idea of summer and the sun (even if that doesn't even make sense--which makes it sooo hilarious), we can reverse that into tropical meets ice. We've never been one to care much for rules. And as Elsa would say, "The cold never bothered me anyway". So let's start!

THE FASHION

The Bride as Elsa, the Ice Queen

(Gown by Elie Saab)

Cool as ice. That's the peg for the bride as she exudes Elsa in all of her magical, snow flake glory.
We imagine her gown to be as sparkly, fluid, and almost kind of see-through like--the same effect it had in the movie when Elsa transformed herself in the "Let It Go" sequence.

Alternate Look: Elsa has two looks in the movie--the first one was when she was still prim & proper, and the other one when she became icy cool. So perhaps the bride can also have two looks?

Other bridal elements that are "Elsa inspired" would be her long braids adorned with maybe flowers or crystals. When it comes to the makeup, you can either follow the purple frosted eyes or keep it more simple with a natural ethereal look.

As for her bouquet, why a snowflake bouquet looks absolutely gorgeous and magical! Can somebody please consider a snowflake bouquet??? It looks soooo breathtaking! (Sigh). Now as for the shoes, Elsa's "signature move" is when she stomps with her killer shoes--so a kick-ass pair of pumps will definitely finish the look.

The Maid-of-Honor as Anna

(Gown by Elie Saab)

The maid-of-honor has to be inspired by no other than Elsa's sister, Anna. Anna is kind of the opposite of Elsa in a sense that she has that "Spring/Summer Season" kind of quality to her. Her various outfits in the movie always have prints on them--mostly flowers. So we wanted to maintain that same vibe. In the movie, Elsa and Anna almost have equal billing. And we reckon that when it comes to a Frozen themed wedding, the bride should be rebellious enough to share the spotlight with her maid-of-honor as well (wouldn't it be even more emotional if the MOH was also a super close sister?).

The Entourage as Ice Princesses

(Gowns by Elie Saab)

I love the idea of making the entourage look like ice princesses. After all, this is a Disney-themed kind of wedding so everybody has to look just as magical and fantastical as the bride. Top the look with braided hairstyles, ice-coated nail polish effects, and instead of bouquets create a giant DIY ornament that has flowers inside!

 The Men as Prince Charming

Technically, Elsa doesn't have a "love team" in the movie (which is refreshing for a Disney film!). And the only prince ended up being a villain (sorry for the spoiler! WATCH THE MOVIE!). But it is a modern fairy tale so it kind of makes sense to dress up the guys in dapper outfits that have like a prince charming quality about it.

The Flower Girls as Little Elsa and Little Anna

The flower girls will be in blue and green satin dresses with exaggerated bow sashes. Purple flowers were one of the main spring elements in the movie so we wanted to incorporate that by having the flower girls carry baskets of purple pretties :)

THE ELEMENTS

Crystals, Icy Blue, and Snowflakes are just some of the templates that can be used to create that Frozen-themed reception. Use these elements to layer the look as much as you can. But not everything should be about this because it's the "obvious" kind of winter or ice themed wedding. Add it to create volume but the key is to make it unique to Frozen as it can be. See below:

Olaf, Olaf, and more Olaf! It wouldn't really be a Frozen wedding if Olaf wasn't around, right? Use him as an element where possible! It would also be nice to have doodles of memorable quotes from the movie such as: "Some people are worth melting for", "Love will thaw a frozen heart", or "Love is an open door with you" :)

Devil in the details. There are other Frozen-inspired details that may not necessarily be obvious but to true blue fans, these elements are worth including: intricately decorated doors, a wooden swing set, and paintings are just some of the incidental elements in the movie that can make it even more personal.

Rebellious Couple Anne & Mike's Steel & Ice Wedding

Photography by Metrophoto
A rebellious bride is a dreamer, someone who knows what she wants, someone who is different from everyone else and someone who is not afraid to be criticized. A bride that opens her mind to endless possibilities and embraces that the  extraordinary ideas will make it all worth it.

Rebellious Bride Anne Buenaobra on her definition of a Rebellious Bride

You know that a wedding is really something when everyone on the wedding team is rooting for you and your extraordinary theme. This was the case for Anne & Mike's wedding wherein from the coordinator, to the stylist, to the cake, to the photographer, everything was just so in sync! You could tell that they were all excited to bring the ideas out to the world. You could tell from Teddy Manuel's spectacular works of art, from Teena's passion for the couple and the wedding...everything just absolutely worked so well and the result? A rebellious labor of love in every sense of the word.

Here's what Anne had to say about their Steel & Ice wedding. And what I loved about her stories the most was her relationship with Teena Barretto. Enjoy!

Rebellious Brides: What was the theme/concept of your wedding and what was your inspiration behind it?

Anne: Our concept/theme is Steel and Ice--and it’s a crazy idea by Teena Barretto. Just a short story how we got to know each other. She was on vacation here in LA when we were actually looking for a wedding planner in Manila.  We drove 4 hours just to meet with her...that’s how we started our relationship with Teena.  She was doing her conceptualization and then she said, "You’re so opposites! And with your personalities, I don’t know how you guys get along so well. And to think that you guys are together na for 5 years ha! Lol"….then we decided that our wedding theme should symbolize us. How different we are but how perfectly we are able to come together. Teena said, "I visualize your wedding as Steel and Ice".

Then everything was left to Teena’s hands. Our angel!

RB: What makes you a rebellious bride?

Our cake doesn’t look like a wedding cake. It’s a stunning chandelier cake that dramatically descended from the ceiling! When I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a gigantic wedding cake. Then Teena thought of the idea of this chandelier cake… who would think of that craziness? Siya lang! Pabababain niya yung wedding cake ko from the ceiling? OMG! She said, “You want a gigantic cake, then you got it, and you have a chandelier cake pa!"

I remember when we had the supplier meeting with Miss Joy and Juancho, they said, “A chandelier cake?????". Then of course, what Teena wants Teena gets… and of course with all the support of Miss Joy San Gabriel and Juancho from Sensitivity, our chandelier cake became the highlight of our wedding.

My “160 mm Lady Peep” Strass from Christian Louboutin  -  Who wouldn’t fall in love with this? My Louboutins were covered in hand-placed crystals that would certainly take your breath away! I’m a shoe lover, so it was really hard for me to pick my wedding shoes especially for the very special day of my life.

Last, our Steel and Ice details during our reception :) Our chairs were made of ice! Yikes! I was scared to get wet.. Lol.. True enough, Teena's idea saved me and made it possible! Our centerpieces are made of carved ice, steel sculptures, hanging flowers from the ceiling, made by Teddy Manuel.... Super galing! Kudos to Teddy and to Teena Barretto's team!

RB: What can you advice to brides who may be thinking of having a creative wedding but are afraid to pursue it?

Anne: Your wedding is a once in a lifetime event. Everything should be for you and for your husband-to-be. Do not hesitate and don't be afraid. Just stick to what you want and you will never regret it.

Rebellious Bunch Oly Ruiz also had a lot of awesome things to say about the wedding. Here's a snippet from his blog (To view the complete write-up and all the wedding photos, CLICK HERE)

I think this is the first time, albeit already having shot a lot of beautiful and expensive shoes, that one can claim to have the most expensive shoes that they can find. Not that they have to tell everyone, but it’s that I have to tell everyone. hahaha. I think it’s just both so amusing and amazing that while the red-soled Christian Louboutin’s are very popular, Anne made sure that she had the best one for her wedding. So at the Beverly Hills boutique, they were ushered to a private VIP room where the rare designs of the said brand are stored. There Anne tried and loved the Daffodil Blue Crytal 160 platform pumps – perfect color for her wedding. The price? $6,395 – enough budget for a decent wedding already. That may be too much information for some or just plain too much but who can blame them for having a knack for the best that life has to offer? They loved it, I loved it, everyone loved it. :) She is a Metrophoto Bride after all.

The second unique thing? How about a wedding cake so cool (both literally and figuratively) that it actually emerges from the ceiling and gets lowered down by hydraulics for the cake-cutting ceremony? It was unlike anything I’ve seen before in a wedding and surely everyone was in awe. The cake was like an ‘icing on the cake’ for the reception that was truly done impeccably.Again, these are just two of the countless things that make this wedding one-of-a-kind (actually, I can include that I’ve never seen a groom cry as much as Mike did) but I’ll skip the writing and lead you to the photos already, I’m sure you’re curious to see what a pair of shoes that is priced like a car looks like. Enjoy the photos of this beautiful and emotion-filled wedding of Mike and Anne. :)

Congratulations to Anne & Mike! And as a bonus, here are some of their equally wicked photos from their prenup! (To view the complete set, CLICK HERE)

XOXO,
Kai
