Joanne and Richard - Beyond the Smokes and Mirrors

Summon To Love : Joanne and Richard from Mayad Studios on Vimeo.

Just one look at Joanne and Richard's engagement sessions and you'll probably get to the same conclusion as us that this is one glamorous, beautiful couple. But what we particularly admired the most was the email we received from Joanne (which was sent to us in confidence so we'll keep the finer details in private).

How seemingly easy enough it was that Richard summoned the courage to walk up to her in a restaurant to introduce himself. How this simple introduction lead to a challenging relationship which they rebelliously tried to deflect. How the very concepts of their prenups intentionally left out the usual grand props to give focus more on lived-in locations with the most interesting of tiles, walls, columns, and available props. No. this prenup, and this very love story go beyond the smokes and mirrors. Joanne and Richard aren't the poster couple for being rebellious in the obvious of definitions but they are rebellious in how they feel and think. And beyond the smokes and mirrors, they are rebellious in their resilient spirits.

Joanne writes: Basically, we wanted to be "uniquely rebellious" without totally being out of character.  We were being rebellious by avoiding the norm - out of town location (with wide shots where the face of the couple can no longer be seen), sexy shoots, and artsy photoshoot that most couples do nowadays.  We did a lot of research and found this old house in Manila that was turned into a gallery.  We did not make use of additional props because the place was already full of different furniture, plates, bed frames, etc.  Pat Dy (our talented photographer), known for making wedding editorial shoots, really made use of the natural lighting and elements.  It just looked like we were taking photos in our own "vintage" home.   Even without nature in our midst, he gave us photos we can look at with pride 10 years down the line.

Joanne on their Mayad Video: As for our prenup video, we just went with the suggestion of our director.  Raphael Jamil Pranga also known as Fiel, the leader of the directing pack and founder of Mayad Studios, wanted something romantic and elegant that can be shot within the Metropolis. Though most of the videos I like were destination weddings, we took the risk and got Metro Manila locations to see how well they can do without the pristine beach, overlooking scenery, and the like.  We went to 3 locations:  National Museum, San Agustin Museum and W Condo.

Here in Rebellious Brides, we've always said that prenups need not be overly complicated. Sometimes, all you need is to discover venues that are naturally decorated on its own. Simple w/ a Twist. That's what we said before in our Prenup Workshop Blog! Joanne, Richard, and their star-studded team ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT. Just...NAILED IT!

The Wedding Agency: Kathleen & Dingdong

Dingdong + Kathleen: A Romantic Discovery from buterflye on Vimeo.
Photo grabbed from Madge Lejano

We'd like to formally congratulate one of our Wedding Agency couples Kathleen & Dingdong for finally tying the knot in Shangri-La, Boracay!

While we impatiently wait for the official photos, we'd like to share with you guys some of the elements of their wedding.

A Modern Fairytale...

When K&D first briefed us, it was quite clear that Kathleen was the romantic one and Dingdong was the more techie one. At the heart of their wedding was that it was going to be a modern fairytale--the best way to describe how Kathleen & Dingdong perfectly blended together as one heart & soul. But since it was a fairytale, it needed a title. A title that literally went through an evolution of sorts. In the end, while finalizing venue locations for their prenup, Kathleen herself had an epiphany of naming their fairytale as a "Romantic Discovery" and the rest you could say, was happily ever after.

The Fairytale/Romantic  part of it represented the bride. While the Modern/Discovery part of it represented the groom. A lot of the design elements were inspired by the modern Rapunzel fairytale 'Tangled'. It was definitely not the usual Boracay wedding elements that we've been used to.

Taken on the actual morning of the wedding day - The most beautiful omen you could possibly have during your wedding is a rainbow- indeed, this day was a going to be a fairytale to remember! (Photo grabbed from the couple's friend Love)
From peg to the actual output, the invitations were inspired by the TV Series Revenge

The bride loves sunsets--the wedding palette was inspired by it! The second beautiful omen of the day arrived before the reception - from Rainbows to Sunsets, it was as if God himself was celebrating with the couple that day.  (Photo grabbed from the couple's sister Zarah)

The couple didn't want their wedding to look like the usual Boracay wedding. So the bride looked to the illuminating lights that was a signature look of the modern fairytale 'Tangled' for inspiration.
The modern, techie groom made sure he had his own vibe to be ever-present in the wedding too. Hence, the metallic and techie touches.

Kathleen & Dingdong will always be special to us. I can still remember how, during the first week into our servicing period with Kathleen we were able to establish a teamwork with her. By the end of the week we had her wedding date down (not an easy task if you have popular suppliers), got her pencil booked with Amanda Tirol, Nelwin Uy, Mark Cantalejo, and Cary Santiago; and eventually got Fozzy, Badang Rueda, VDJ JT Rius, Madge Lejano, Mel Orlina, and Lifestyle by Feliz on board.

We'd like to personally congratulate the awesome team of Mayad for capturing Kathleen & Dingdong's Romantic Discovery wedding exactly how the couple envisioned their blissful wedding would be like. Watching the wedding film literally brought us back to when we were still making K+D's walkthrough. Bravo!

Congratulations to our princess and prince charming! More to come soon from Mark Cantalejo and Nelwin Uy. But in the meantime, let's watch the photo slideshow from Nelwin :)

The Ultimate Run for Love

My, how time flies by so fast. Just last year, we cited Coach Rio's proposal video as a trend to watch out for in 2012 (Back track HERE). And here we are today, ogling his and Nicole's heart-stopping Mayad trailer & wedding video.

We don't personally know Coach Rio and Nicole (my mom does though--which is soooo weird!). But Coach being one of the country's 'pambansang' icons when it comes to all things running/marathons, we feel happy for him & his equally athletic 'n awesome wife as if we were one of the bystanders rooting for the lovers to finally finish the race.

Watch their rebellious, creative, and 'oh-so-logistically massive & impressive' teaser trailer:

Separately, Mayad (with the direction of Raphael Jamil Pranga) culminated the couple's running journey  through a thematic wedding video. What's so rebellious about their wedding besides Coach Rio's usual rebellious hair? Well, watch out how the couple exits the church and the bride's sizzling preps! We are also loving Nicole's rogue lips! Another sign that our fearless 2013 forecast is on the right track :)

Congratulations to one of the country's most inspiring, hottest couples! :)

PS. We absolutely LOOOOVE Nicole's makeup. Unfortunately, we don't know who to credit for it. If anyone does, please do share the information at the comments page.

Rebellious Royalty Bride Amanda

Photography by Mayad Studios
Mayad titled their blog feature on Amanda & Bong as "Boracay Royalty" and we couldn't agree more. But we'd like to add the word Rebellious to that. Not only was this a 10th year renewal, the Queen of Boracay Amanda Tirol didn't know anything about it! And she wore such a fierce gown to the church at that!

Most of Amanda's former clients can really attest to the fact that she's "God's gift to Boracay Brides". Saying that she gives you all of what she's got and that she'll fight for your dream wedding would be an understatement. So to see her in her own shining moment is such a breath of fresh air indeed.

"I had no idea at all. No clue!", Amanda shares. She was even busy pre-planning and mounting other couples' Boracay weddings before and after her own renewal celebration!

Happy 10th year wedding anniversary to Amanda and Bong! And clap clap clap to the equally rebellious hubby and family for pulling off such a wonderful renewal even if the Queen herself wasn't in on the planning! Haha :)
