Tagaytay in Technicolor

Photography by Quirky Creatives

When we think of Tagaytay, there's almost a template as to how an engagement or a wedding would look like. So for the Quirky Creatives team to bring out something entirely unexpected? Definitely bold and refreshing, indeed.

Noel Salazar shares: "So, from time to time, the creativity itch bug bites us, and we decide to go and shoot something different, and for fun. This is the result of that bite. Hehe. :D"

Props to the entire team and may ya'll rebel brides get inspired to go for reinvention.

A Quirky Civil Wedding

"...make no mistake, even though this was a small and low-key wedding, it was still an awesome celebration of their love." -- Noel Salazar, Quirky Creatives
Photography by Quirky Creatives

We always feel like we are the defenders of civil weddings, just because it becomes soooooo annoying that in this culture that we are in, there is a stigma that civil weddings are not official in the eyes of God, or whatever other judgmental silly reasons others have come up with. In the other parts of the world, a wedding, is a wedding, is a wedding. Regardless where or how it is officiated, it is an official ceremony and one that is just as important and as beautiful as all the others. Take for example my three weddings. Do you know who made the most moving, most memorable ceremony we've had? Not the priest, not the pastor...it was ELVIS. Yes, the Vegas Elvis impersonator.

It is after all, LOVE that is being celebrated above all things and that has nothing to do with whether you are having your wedding in the Vatican or in a beach front. That's why we love how Quirky Creatives created a unique concept for Russell and Rachel's civil wedding--that they took it a step further to make the couple's wedding photos as unique and as special as it should be. Enjoy!

Congratulations Russell and Rachel! And may your love and marriage always shine through, just like your awesome wedding! :)

Simple But Significant

ImagineNation Photography by Noel Salazar, Shayla Sanchez, and Richard To Beljot

Rebellious Bride Ria guest blogs here in RB to tell you about their simple wedding. Yes, the wedding seems rebelliously simple but read her write-up to learn a thing or two about restraining from becoming a "HOARDER BRIDE" -- a term we'd like to use for brides who have the tendency to hoard all the ideas they see, and have the tendency to get all kinds of suppliers just because they've come highly recommended. On a sidenote, this is one of the reasons why we DON'T recommend going to wedding expos because it's too overwhelming and you get the tendency to book suppliers impulsively. We'd also like to note that despite the wedding being seemingly simple, we think that Ria and TL's wedding invitations are one of the BEST ones we've seen so far for the brilliant reason that they refreshingly created details on the envelope flap itself and kept the actual invites as simple as possible.

Rebellious Bride Ria writes:

Being the only girl in my family and the first to get married at that, I did not have the slightest idea on what to do and where to start with the wedding planning. So, like many other giddy, newly-engaged, bride-to-be, I spent countless hours online looking for inspiration, tips, and resources for the most important day of my and my fiance’s life. With all the available data online for brides- and grooms-to-be, the wedding possibilities are endless that it becomes too easy to lose one’s individuality in the world of themes, colors, quirks, and other what-have-yous. I realized then that the real challenge in wedding planning is really restraint and the ability to stay true to one's personality. Fortunately, early on, I came across this slogan on Pinterest that said, “make it simple but significant.” That became my motto since and I used it as guide in all our wedding-related decisions and details.

1.     Wedding dress: by Tammy Tan, who was one of my best wedding “finds”. I’m really just a simple dresser and I never wanted my wedding dress, or my entire wedding, at that, to deviate from that “style” – my style. My thought bubble was, if I’m going to move around in a dress all day, with all eyes and cameras on me, that dress had better be very, very, comfortable. Tammy understood my body issues and knew exactly what to do with them.

2.     Invites: we had two sets of invites – one for the more traditional family members and close relatives and a less formal one for our friends and workmates. To make the formal invite “ours”, we DIYed envelope liners using one of our prenup photos. For the less formal postcard-inspired invites, we also used one of our prenup photos.

3.     Bridesmaids’ dresses: I trust my maid of honor’s and my bridesmaids’ taste in fashion so I chose infinity dresses for them and gave them the liberty to style and accessorize them as they please.

4.     Reception table Props: We are both lawyers so perhaps it doesn’t come as a surprise that we are drawn to John Grisham novels. Over the years, we have accumulated Grisham books, which we plan to put in the library of our very own place someday soon. For the mean time, we decided to put them on display on our reception.

5.     Giveaways: Ask any of my husband’s friends and they will go on and on about how he is such a sweet tooth, making the personalized candies perfect giveaways.

6. DIY Madlibs: Most of our common friends are either writers or lawyers. Either profession entails wit when it comes to choice of words. The madlibs provided for a fun diversion for guests while they waited for us at the reception venue. They also doubled as non-traditional guest books. To ensure guest participation, we gave away prizes for the best entries.

7. Music: My husband is a big rock music fan and I really, really wanted to reflect his personality by the music we played in the wedding. For my bridal march, my husband chose the first three minutes of Dream Theater's Best of Times; for our grand entrance at the reception, we played Skidrow's Remember Yesterday; and for our SDE, was Avenged Sevenfold's Warmness of the Soul. Most people who do not know us well find our music choices unconventional or even unromantic. But those who know my husband well enough said that our music choices made our wedding " very TL", just as my choice of dress was "so me."

Getting generic adjectives as wedding compliments i.e., beautiful, special, awesome, is too easy these days considering all the available data we have. For us, the best compliment we ever received was that the wedding was "us" --- that way, we are assured that our special day is not like any other.

As a blog, we know that we can easily become part of the viscous cycle of inadvertently causing brides to keep hoarding ideas for the wedding. But if you are empowered enough to know what YOU want, then you should be able to use blogs at your advantage. For instance, when I was doing my own wedding preps, I didn't read blogs to get ideas--in fact, I started looking through blogs AFTER we were done finalizing our wedding ideas. Actually, I visited wedding blogs/sites during the remaining months waiting for the big day just to keep the positivity and excitement going...but I was never ever tempted to keep adding new elements because I was confident enough that the way we planned our wedding was already unique on its own. Try this kind of exercise in your own wedding preps and see how you can have more peace of mind when you learn the art of restraint.

Happy wedding preps!

Brides In Waiting - A Quirky Creatives Editorial Feature

I love that more and more creative wedding talents are collaborating to share with everyone their various points of view. What's even more exciting is that the ideas are becoming bolder and quite interesting!

Brides In Waiting. What a simple idea that it's actually right under our noses--yet no one seemed to have thought about it 'till now. Indeed, creativity is in the simplicity.

Veering away from the usual "posy-posy" glam shoot, Noel Salazar of Quirky Creatives and Nio Manzano joined forces to create an editorialized version of the ordinary things that happen during Bridal Preps.

How was your own bridal preps like? Or if you are a bride-to-be, how do you envision your preps to unfold and complement your entire mood on your wedding day? Mine was just as rebellious as the wedding. Not only did I hang out with my husband and had spa treatments together with him, but I did not allow my photog and videog to hover over me. The cheesiest happy songs blared in our villa, and my girls (only my girl friends were with me during the preps) and I were in the chill zone for hours, we almost ran out of time haha! RB Mica on the other hand, wanted the solitude of her own company--not only did she do her own makeup all alone, she walked around Legazpi Village Makati with nobody else but her photogs in tow for some selfies.

We are ecstatic to know that like-minded rebellious talents entrust us with their own material to feature in the blog. We believe that ideas are for everyone to share so that it can touch as many people's lives as possible. We don't care about which blog featured first or any of that exclusivity shit. So if you also have collab concept shoots, keep them coming!

Weddings at Sonya's Garden

Over the past few years, I have found myself constantly being asked on my own two cents on wedding venues and destination wedding ideas. Having had the time to reflect on this, I have come to a conclusion that Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay is my personal choice for my most highly recommended kind of "anti-reception" wedding if you want to do a destination wedding near Manila.

What's not to love? Not only is it beautiful but it's probably the most cost efficient choice out there. Where else can you find a charming venue that saves you so much money?

For instance, assuming you had 160 guests for your wedding, your total package will be a little below P150,000 ($3,658) and that already includes: food (which is an eat-all-you-can spread!), venue fees for both reception + ceremony, wedding cake, lights & sounds, and overnight accommodations! Not to mention, you won't be needing a stylist because the venue is already styled! Also, you won't need a bridal car because everything is on the same venue, and no need for flowers because you can ask Sonya's to make one for you! And most importantly for that amazingly reasonable cost, you get to do your wedding in one of the most naturally heavenly places in the country.

And if you have extra money to spare, you'll most likely be able to afford the dream suppliers that you've been wanting to get since you saved up on so many other elements already! It's such a win-win situation! :)

Sonya's Garden Tagaytay is my ultimate highly recommended anti-reception destination venue near Manila
Flowers abound in the heavenly gardens at Sonya's. There's really no need to get a florist!
The Bed & Breakfast is where you can have your preps. It is the best place for you to relax, reflect, and have your very own sanctuary before the big day
Imagine this as your ceremony ambiance.Natural, fuss-free, and well...perfectly blissful without the need to dress it up anymore!
Real-life couple Drew & Lea performing their wedding vows at Sonya's Garden
The surrounding area like the "Favorite Things Room" & the Bakery give you a lot of interesting choices for your after-ceremony-couples-shoot
Charming chandeliers abound the reception area--there is literally no need to get a stylist.
Meals are hearty because of the eat-all-you can menu

Drew & Lea knew that having their wedding at Sonya's Garden was one of the best decisions they have ever made.

However, Lea advises this to future brides: add a few thoughtful details wherever possible since Sonya's is already a popular venue for weddings. You wouldn't want to look too templated, so add a touch of your own personalities as well. Here are some of the pretty details that Lea added to their Sonya's wedding:

Dainty white illustrations/handwritten details & use of Kraft brown paper  were abundant in Lea & Drew's wedding
Hanging paper crafts and candles floated above the guests

Doodles & local goodies surrounded the guests with organic thoughtfulness

There's still so many other ways to create your very own unique Sonya's Garden wedding. In fact, I already have an idea on how I would conceptualize my own REBELLIOUS Sonya's wedding. Here's how:

First of all, I won't do it in the restaurant area of Sonya's. Instead, I'll do it in the Bed & Breakfast area, and I'll book my guests in all of the rooms for an overnight stay. It will be an intimate party of about 48 guests max, 50 including the couple. I'll also do it during the weekday so that the surrounding area is more peaceful and exclusive. In this kind of set-up, the wedding will cost about P150,000 including the overnight stay for all guests, inclusive of dinner & breakfast (which already covers the "reception part of it"), and also inclusive of interesting activities for the guests like: cooking lessons, flower arrangement lessons, wreath making lessons, gardening lessons, and firefly watching (during November-December). The entire Bed & Breakfast area will be exclusive to everyone so the possibilities are endless in terms of the ceremony ideas, pictorial ideas, and after-dinner party ideas. What's more, the wedding becomes a 24-hour affair and gives you so much bonding time with loved ones. It becomes an experience rather than just another wedding to attend.

Whatever your ideas are, all I have to say is Sonya's Garden is a wonderful, cost-efficient, practical, but tasteful choice for such a charming wedding.

Special thanks to Lea for sharing their wedding with us!
