DIY Bridal Make Up Ideas

For me it was very important to have a professional make up artist do my make up on my Brides day. Sure I've been wearing make up regularly { daily } since I was 13, but still, I wanted my look to be flawless!

I know some brides are after that they wont look like themselves if a professional gets their hands on them, or they just prefer to do it for themselves... sure if its good enough for the Duchess of Cambridge {aka Kate Middleton } on her Brides day its good enough for the rest of us ... right?

So with that in mind, our good friends over at SimplyBridal.com have put together a great infographic to help us out with some DIY Bridal Make Up Ideas.

How to remember your loved ones on your Brides day.

Right now my uncle is dying. In fact, the day this goes live Ill probably be at his funeral. Death is a part of life, but it doesn't make it any easier. My uncle is only 61 and although he's lived a tremendous 16 months longer than we ever expected, they are tough words to hear; that he wont make it through the day.

Bridess are of course hugely joyous occasion, celebrations of love, life, family and happiness. Some of us are lucky enough to have all our family & friends with us on the day and others are not.

When we married we were truly blessed to have so many of the very important people there with us, unfortunately not all, particularly my grandfather who had been so excited for us, but sadly passed the November before we said 'I Do'. It was important to us to remember all those who had passed away, or indeed who lived to great a distance to be with us on that special day and so we involved them;

Before our Brides ceremony started, two of my wonderful cousins stood up, and as one lit a candle to represent all those who couldn't be with us, the other read a short poem I wrote telling everyone that this candle was to represent those who had passed and who we wished would be with us today and those who send their love and are celebrating at home.

There are other lovely ways to represent different people on your Brides day.

Have special reserved seating with photos {possibly of them on their Brides day, or a special day you spent together.}

Create a small photo memorial with messages or names to those you would like to remember.

Have them close to every moment by putting pictures into a locket and attaching it to your bridal bouquet.

Remember them in your speech{es}; tell a funny story or share a special moment.

10 Creative Brides Guest Book Ideas

Every detail of your Brides is an opportunity to express your personality and style.  Your Brides guest book is no exception!  The alternatives to the traditional guest book are nearly endless, since your guests can sign just about anything.  Here are ten of our favorite ideas for guests to sign-in.

1.      Guest Notes

Buy or create a decorative display where your guests can leave you a note.  Read the notes every five years or so on your Brides anniversary to relive some of the wonderful memories!

2.      Guest Book Puzzle or Games

Showcase your fun-loving spirit with a guest book puzzle or game. Have guests sign puzzle (or Jenga) pieces, and enjoy reading their notes as you play for years to come!

3.      Sign-In Board

Sign-in boards don’t have to be limited to your bar or bat mitzvah and Sweet 16. Sign-In boards can be a fun way to feature photos of you and your fiancé (from baby to adult), your travels together, or other interests. The board can be a great keepsake for your new home together.

4.      Photo Booth Guest Book

If you’re having a photo booth at your Brides, you can create a guest book from the photo strips.  Most photo booth companies will print 2 copies of every photo strip so guests can keep a copy, and include a copy in your guest book.

On the guest book table, include an album, washi tape, colorful pens, fun stickers, and a note with clear instructions.  Encourage guests to be creative!

5.      Engagement Photo Guest Book

If you’ve had an engagement shoot with your photographer, chances are you’d love the opportunity to show off the gorgeous results.  Creating a sign-in book from your engagementshoot gives your guests the opportunity to see all your best professional photos. You can have your photographer create a book from the images, or try one of the many services such as Shutterfly that make it easy and fun to do it yourself.

6.      Props

You can really get creative when it comes to getting guests’ signatures. Almost anything can be turned into a guest sign-in.  A pair of your favorite shoes, a sports jersey, a guitar, wine bottles…the list is infinite!

7.      Guest Book Keepsake Plate – Day in Clay

To make an experience out of your guest sign-ins, you can create a keepsake commemorative bowl out of their signatures. Day in Clay Signature Program can craft the one-of-a-kind piece on-site with a live demonstration, or display a finished bowl on a table to be signed by guests.

8.      Sign-In Pillows

The Pieced Palette can turn your Brides invitation into a custom sign-in pillow!  Just provide them with an image, and they will print it onto cotton twill.  Display this on your sign-in table or mount it on an easel at your party for guests to sign with permanent markers. After the Brides, the fabric is incorporated into a lounging floor pillow for you and your fiancé to enjoy and treasure.

9.      Photo Frame

Since you’reprobably going to hang your favorite engagement photo, why not have guests sign the frame and make it even more meaningful?  Use an acid free fine point pen to preserve the signatures. Photo Frames available from Amazon.

10.  Custom Artwork / Fingerprint Tree

The best Brides guest books are true keepsakes. What better way to remember your guests than to have their signatures incorporated into a unique piece of art? You can have guests create a beautiful fingerprint tree, or let them unleash their creativity by designing a completely custom painting at your Brides.

We hope we’ve inspired you with these Brides guest book alternative ideas!

The whole DIY Brides Event at IKEA was a dream come true for me. Big thank you again to IKEA and all their amazing staff and of course to each and everyone of you who attended!!

The DIY Brides Event with IKEA Dublin: Part One

It's hard to believe after all the hard { but extremely fun } work we put in that the DIY Brides Event with IKEA Dublin has been and gone :)

A massive thank you to all who came out on during possibly the warmest and sunniest weather Ireland has seen in some time! Both nights were filled to the brim with eager couples and some of their Brides party. I know some of you missed out on tickets due to them being snapped up so quickly... but a little birdie tells me you might just got another opportunity to come along and see the 4 terrific scenes we created and see the amazing { if I do say so myself } and very simple DIY Brides Projects we created before peoples eyes { so stay tuned }!

So who would like to see some pictures?

{ Big Shout Out to my dear dear friend Susan Kennedy from Lensmen PR & Photographic Agency who came along and took these great photos of the event... Susan is an absolute doll, do check her out if you are yet to choose your Brides photographer! }

I was so excited to create, design and style four Brides scenes using IKEA products and as many DIY Brides Ideas as I could! Each of the DIY Brides projects I used were super simple, some requiring no skill or previous experience and one only takes about 10 seconds to complete! { And yes, someone did time me; I did it in less than 9 :) }

The Brides ceremony's main focal point was the Mosquito Net { only €8.00!! } decorated with artificial flowers { from 80c } with two matching floor lamps { yes, those are lights! } decorated with matching flowers and of course, from the ceiling we hung these fantastic paper cranes to tie in with the hugely popular bird trend that will be for Bridess in 2013 & 2014!

We showed couples how to make those lovely fabric flowers which we've used to decorate the bride & grooms bench and how they could be incorporated into pew ends or indeed {made on a smaller scale } made into an Heirloom Bouquet.

I showed couples how easy it is to make an Heirloom Bouquet from .... Curtain Pole Ends!! Yes... not brooches or buttons but Curtain Pole Ends... :)

NEXT UP....

Was the Drinks Reception Scene and the main focus here was our Candy Station, created using IKEA's new Pic 'n' Mix Station... { only €1.50 for 100g !!! } .... the sweets are divine, {quality control is important to me so I had a little taste or two :) }

We also showed couples how quick & easy it is to create a wishing tree as a guest book alternative and we created a great photo {booth} op for couples & guests using a simple screen and some bright colourful chairs & cushions... traditionally at a Swedish Brides this is where the bride & groom would sit and open up all the gifts and envelopes in front of their guests! { A tradition not to many Irish couples who attended the event where keen to adopt for their own Bridess :) }

So that completes Part One of the DIY Brides Event at IKEA Dublin... do check back later for Part Two which features the Brides Reception and 'Party' Scenes... you wont want to miss the stunning rose napkin folds I used { that take 10 seconds }, how I took net curtains and made a table overlay, fairy light back drop and a ceiling rose feature for a first dance, as well as an easy peasy magnetic table plan and a Photobooth from material and picture frames!

Las Vegas Bridess: Out of Town Brides Guest Welcome Baskets

There is no nicer way to greet your inbound destination Brides guests than with the perfect Out of Town Brides guest welcome basket. Filled with treats that celebrate local culture and attractions, welcome baskets help make your guests feel at home.

Great Information

Every welcome bag or basket should include relevant and helpful information for your VIP guests. Maps, lists of your favorite local attractions, show schedules and restaurant recommendations are standard inclusions. When planning a Las Vegas Brides, for example, give guests a layout of The Strip and Fremont Street. Consider having a custom map printed that highlights your favorite casinos and night spots. An itinerary of major Brides-related times and events can also be very helpful. Make sure to include practical general information like the best transportation options while in town, insider tips about traffic and weather
conditions and emergency contact info in case your guests need a little extra help.

{ Source }

Amenities and Necessities

It’s a good idea to include some basic amenities in your welcome baskets. Las Vegas Brides guests may forget some everyday local must-haves like bottled water and sunscreen. Snacks at major hotels can be expensive, so including cheese and crackers, or a couple of candy items can help while weary travelers are first settling in. Go the extra mile and make your baskets personal by featuring some of each of your favorite childhood (or even current favorite) snacks.

Local Flavor

Capture the local flavor by including items with regional significance. A basket for a Brides in Ireland, for example, may include an assortment of local teas, a bottle opener or perhaps a pair of wool socks for the potentially cool weather. If you are planning an upscale or more sophisticated affair, source local wines or add in a bottle of your favorite bubbly with personalized toasting flutes.

{ Source }

Include a Personalized Note of Thanks

Always include a note from yourselves to your guests thanking them for making the extra effort to travel in order to celebrate your important day. Hand sign a letter or card for each basket and your guests will know you care.

Plot out Distribution and Call Hotel Properties in Advance

Finally, do the necessary legwork to ensure smooth delivery of your out of town guest welcome baskets. Some hotels require certain labeling on each bag, and other will charge a fee to have them delivered to the guest room at check-in. Confirm the specifications for your guests’ hotels in advance and you’ll ensure that your thoughtful gifts are received, and appreciated, by your loved ones as planned!
