The Year of Color

Gown by Stella de Libero / As Seen on Wedding Inspirasi
Three years ago when we created our blog, one of our first few posts already rallied to go for colored gowns. To be more specific, we entitled the entry "Anti-White" and it was our 9th post in the blog. This has always been one of our "propaganda movements."

Over the past few years since that post, we've been so overjoyed to see the same battle cry from fashion heavyweights the likes of Vera Wang. So when the folks over at Simply Bridal shared with us their 2014 Fearless Forecast, we couldn't be happier. According to Simply Bridal, they predict that 2014 is DEFINITELY the year for colored gowns. So in support of their forecast, we've scoured the web to also give you sample gowns based on their forecast. Enjoy! :)

Simply Bridal says: 2014 is the year of going against the grain with weddings, especially when it comes to color! Instead of traditional white wedding gowns, brides will select colored gowns to show off their unique style and personality. Here's some of the hottest hues for wedding dresses and what they say about you:

"THE LITTLE WHITE LIE"

If you are a regular RB reader, you know by now that the belief embedded in our society that white is the traditional color of gowns since time and immemorial is one of the BIGGEST FATTEST LIES to date. But in case you haven't read our feature on this yet, VISIT: THE LITTLE WHITE LIE

So what now rebels? Are you finally ready to take the big leap towards colored gowns? Always remember that this is NOT about following the latest trends in weddings. It's about staying true to yourself especially if deep down inside you've always wanted to wear a colored gown on your wedding day. Based on this helpful infographic shared by Simply Bridal, which color/personality do you think best suits you? :)

Bridal Spring 2014 - Rebellious Honorable Mention: Romona Keveza (Part 4 of 5)

http://www.wwd.com/runway/bridal-spring-2014
Probably the only Bridal Spring 2014 collection that fully celebrated color this season was Romona Keveza that's why this is one of my two most favorite collections from this showcase.

I have to admit that I wasn't familiar with the designer's work 'till now. But this really took my breath away. The collection was so rich in vivid colors and you can barely see the usual lace or breadwork typical of bridal wear but it really works just as dramatically and beautifully.

This collection is perfect for the Rebellious Bride who is womanly and comfortable in her skin in every sense of the word.

UP NEXT: Vera Wang!

Anti-White Inspirations

Here in Rebellious Brides, we've pretty much established that we are pro colored bridal gowns. We stumbled upon the site vitostudio.com which offers Filipino designer pieces positioned to be marketed globally and we are loving the anti-white pieces we've seen in the site!

Here are some of my favorites!

I definitely wouldn't mind wearing one of Veejay Floresca's electryifying gun metal creations to my own wedding if I had to figure for it haha! This gown runs for roughly around $258 (P10,000+)

Want something a little bit more subtly sexy and romantic? How about going for Hindy W. Tantoco's Valentina Lace Gown? This dreamy piece can be yours for about $664 (P27,000+)

Or maybe you are even more rebellious than we thought and you actually have the spunk to wear a jumpsuit instead of a gown? Then Jun Escario's Ellie Jumpsuit is just the perfect, wild card option for you. This one-of-a-kind creation runs for about $1,600 (P65,000+)

Which one is your favorite?

Claire Pettibone - An Earthly Paradise

"Sapphire sea, an endless blue sky, the scent of sweet flowers drifting on the breeze, and a girl dreaming of her lover. Dutch born Victorian artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema painted scenes of languid beauties reminiscent of Roman deities, but his subjects are unmistakably human. Caught in a moment of relaxation or idle daydream…we can almost feel the cool marble and the warm Mediterranean sunlight. Elements of precious embellishment, sun drenched color and effortless luxury set the stage for our modern goddesses."  -- ClairePettibone.Com

Claire Pettibone's Earthly Paradise Bridal Collection has taken my breath away. She brings out so much color and life into the usual white bridal gown! Is it so weird that I feel so much worldly emotions just by looking at her creations?

Designer Claire Pettibone shares:

"When I design a collection I strive to make a woman feel as special as the delicate creation she is wearing; take her to a enchanted time and place where women are princesses and magnificent goddesses. In today's modern world we need to pause and indulge in beauty....

It has always been my desire to create exquisite feminine clothing using the finest fabrics and precious details; to combine a vintage feeling with modern style.

In 1994, with the partnership of my husband Guy Toley, we began. Over the years, it has been a joy to see our collections carried in the finest boutiques in the world. I have a very romantic vision of how fashion can enhance our beauty and indulge our dreams. I invite you to share that dream."

I got a little curious on who the "real-life Claire Pettibone brides" are and here's what I discovered:

Claire defines her brides as: "Intelligent, independent, feminine. All ages, all body types, but the common thread is wanting a gown that touches her soul and is utterly romantic"Read more at http://www.weddingchicks.com/2012/01/16/meet-the-real-claire-pettibone/#kt6oVizXJoJ5ooqp.99

Rebellious Bride Van's Creamy Gold Gown

Photography by Nice Print
We will never get used to receiving emails from real-life rebellious brides who have found their inner courage because of our blog. It's the best emails we get. Ever.

Hi RBs

I'm Van Orpilla, and I would just like to say thanks to your team for putting up the Rebellious Brides Blog! It's been an inspiration to me during the preparation of my wedding. Since day 1 of my preps, I've been so pressured with all the traditions (I'm a Chinese), coz they are soooo confusing and to be blunt, very boring! I'm a happy person, I hate rules, traditions, and all. Then I came across your blog, and became so attached to it! It became my "Wedding Bible" LOL!

My idea of a wedding is simple, yet unique. I'm one of those "anti-white" wedding gown brides. At first, I was planning to wear a bloody red gown, but my mom was too strict, so I changed it to cream with gold details. I talked to my designer, Ms. Cor Sunglao, and emphasized that I really want it to be a one-of-a-kind wedding gown. What she did with my gown was very nice, it was a serpentine gown with gold lace deets for the whole bodice. Everyone in my wedding loved it! :)

Thank you for taking time to read my message. I just want to tell you how you inspired me and somewhat push me out of my box! LOL! Big thanks!!! :) -Van

Being a Chinese who comes from a family of tradition, this story makes it even that much more inspiring.  We hope that Van's anti-white gown story inspires you all to take a leap of faith.

XOXO,
Kai
