Pia + Shuni's Shabby Chic & Mask Fair Wedding

Photography by We Do It For Love

As I was looking through Pia and Shuni's wedding photos, I was immediately taken and impressed by how unique their wedding details were. They actually call their theme shabby chic--but as you will see in this feature, they managed to create such an uncommon interpretation to an otherwise common theme. The wedding felt fun, playful, whimsical, magical, imaginative, and nostalgic as if it were a children's book made to come alive. At the same time, the couple made the whole wedding festivities feel like a private mask fair with many interactive ideas and decorations. Just goes to show that there's still MORE to shabby chic than meets the eye and it's so much fun to create your own wedding rules!

Pia & Shuni definitely knew how to curate and edit old ideas from new ones and the result of which is a wedding that we've never seen before! This is definitely one of the most charming rebellious weddings we've seen so far this year :)

Congratulations Pia and Shuni! And may your marriage be as inspiring and magical as your wedding!

"L" is for...Rebellious LOVE

"There will be things that, no matter what they do, they will not have any control of – like marriage and the acceptance of other people. For now, they focus on what they can influence and on what gives them the inspiration to go on, and that is each other. Enjoy the photos and let’s celebrate love no matter what form it is presented to us."

---Metrophoto's Oly Ruiz on Vida & Arra

The minute Jason Magbanua tweeted about this engagement session, I knew in a heartbeat that we needed this in Rebellious Brides. In the meantime, I was surprised to overhear different officemates from different cubicles talking about this prenup at work. This has gone viral, I thought to myself. In fact, I wasn't sure if this blog post would still be timely as of publishing time---for the simple reason that everyone seems to know about it already. But we reckon it's not just about getting the first dibs on new features. In RB, we feature couples and artists for the simple reason that we want to celebrate, recognize and show our support to rebelliousness of all shapes and sizes.

For whatever reason that people have suddenly become curious about Vida and Arra's Lesbian Prenup , two things resonated so well: the fact that they are fearlessly and fiercely shouting to the world of their rebellious love, and how Metrophoto handled the very essence of this prenup with such instinctively good taste and sophistication. This photo shoot could have easily gone the wrong way. So we have nothing else to say but-- you definitely are the man, Oly!

Here's Oly's own thoughts on this beautiful prenup:

In a world where everything seem modern and open, there are still things that most people would rather leave untouched and unspoken. But also in a world where everything seem different and in disarray, there is this one thing that’s common with each and everyone of us, and that is our capability to love as human beings.

As unusual as this post is, Im really finding it hard to begin the write-up about Vida and Arra. Although I may be over-thinking it or I may still be in disbelief on what this was all about and on how they specifically chose me to photograph them. In the end, things that look to be as vexed as this require a straight forward answer, and we go back to love. If for them it is as simple as the affection they have for each other that allowed them to be together no matter what the obstacles are, then there is no reason to complicate it even more. Love – it is what they have and it is what they wanted to share to people and for the very reason they want to tastefully showcase this love that they chose Metrophoto to capture it for them.

They both know that this is just the beginning. There have been challenges already but that is nothing compared to those that lie ahead. There will be things that, no matter what they do, they will not have any control of – like marriage and the acceptance of other people. For now, they focus on what they can influence and on what gives them the inspiration to go on, and that is each other.

Enjoy the photos and let’s celebrate love no matter what form it is presented to us.
